A big surprise at the Great Debate

It was an unexpected outcome at an event like no other

Thank you to all those who supported the Women of Influence Annual Great Debate on Friday 11 September!

This was an event like no other with a physically distanced gathering of guests in the ballroom at RACV Royal Pines Resort joined by virtual guests from around Australia and even around the world.

Despite the challenges of COVID-19 many said it was the best event yet, whether they were in the room, on their laptop or device or enjoying an office party, we were entertained by the antics of the debaters and even felt connected through the massive screens, Instagram feeds, hashtags and live stream via YouTube.

There was a great deal of laughter, plenty of entertainment and even some medical facts and figures to make us all think as the debaters battled it out on stage, women against men, on the topic “That women are better at looking after themselves than men.”

Raffle prizes were awarded, a lovely array of prizes from our supporters and sponsors and all to raise funds for RADFLY.org to purchase laptops for young people facing the challenges of life in COVID times.

The big surprise was the final decision that the opposing team of men were the victors – in a room full of Women of Influence it was an upset indeed.

Overall, the winner was the Gold Coast business community as we were able to CONNECT, LEARN & GROW with our colleagues and enjoy a fun Friday in a COVID safe environment.

Could this be the shape of things to come from now on?

Gold Coast not-for-profit, RADFLY (Realise A Difference for Local Youth) are partnering with Women of Influence and Wesley Mission Qld to raise funds to purchase 10 laptops for young people attending high school who do not have access to such devices to support their learning. Your donation, which would be tax-deductible, can help to make a difference.

Another 10 laptops needed!
