We say this every time, but this was the best Women of Influence (WOI) event yet! With over 200 guests, mostly women and a few brave men, the vibe was warm, supportive, inclusive.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

We gathered in the Ballroom of RACV Royal Pines to celebrate International Women’s Day(IWD), uniting to #PushforProgress

""

IWD is about motivating and uniting friends, colleagues, and communities to think, act, and be gender inclusive. This event ticked all those boxes, starting with the charity we love to support – RADFLY (Realise A Difference For Local Youth).

GIRLS IN TECH

The focus on youth continued with an inspirational presentation from 5 very dedicated 12-year-old girls who ha""ve developed an award-winning app called SunFun. They have been invited to represent Australia at Global Technovation in San Francisco in July 2018.

""A Massage Therapist from OneSpa at RACV Royal Pines resort provided neck and shoulder massages for a gold coin donation to raise funds for the SunFun girls at the IWD event.

MENTORS AND MENTEES

""With so many inspirational young women in the room, the topic shifted to mentoring, with our first Key Note Speaker, Kylie Sprott, talking about her experience with mentoring.

In addition to being on three boards, running her consulting business, bringing up two children and dedicating her time to charity Kylie acts as a mentor for a number of young women. Her advice to those considering how to effectively mentor was to think back to when you were young and consider what was valuable then, it could be simply sharing stories and experiences that help most.

TRAUMA AT WORK

The highlight of the day was an “Oprah Style” chat with Kylie Sprott and Dr Rebecca Ray, starting with a very emotionally charged and true ""recount of Kylie’s time with a $1Billion, ASX listed company where she held a very senior position. A role she loved and thrived in, but that came to a traumatic end due to circumstances which were out of her control. Every person in the room was touched and could surely relate.

""
Dr Rebecca Ray and Kylie Sprott

Dr Rebecca Ray, a Clinical Psychologist who has just released her book Be Happy: 35 Powerful Habits for Personal Growth and Well-Being (and is 37 months pregnant) was such a warm and experienced sounding board who then applied her skills, qualifications, and advice to help us understand how to cope with trauma. Kylie and Rebecca discussed how the emotional anguish can have physical side effects, how it is normal to respond with emotion, way to protect ourselves when faced with a difficult situation at work and methods to help us move on.

This WOI event was a happy, friendly, fun, emotional, enlightening, engaging and motivational start to International Women’s Day 2018!
