Our next event will feature a Q & A panel discussing ‘Ikigai’. According to Forbes Magazine, “Ikigai is (pronounced ee – key – guy) is, above all else, a lifestyle that strives to balance the spiritual with the practical. This balance is found at the intersection where your passions and talents converge with the things that the world needs and is willing to pay for.”
It’s also the name of a book, Ikigai – The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles (2017), Garcia is a Spaniard who lived in Japan and studied centenarians in Okinawa who all live with a sense of purpose daily in addition to:
- a healthy diet
- daily movement
- being part of a community
- having social contact with others
- smiling
Our Vice President, Jodi Robertson, gave this book to me. Jodi completed her Master’s in Japan and speaks fluent Japanese amongst other languages, in my view, Jodi is a living example of Ikigai.
Thanks to Jodi and many other wonderful friends I have met through Women of Influence, I too am living with a sense of purpose, am happier and healthier than ever, studying at Uni, enjoying daily movement, and being a part of a community that is giving back.
At the Women of Influence September Breakfast we will explore the concept of Ikigai and learn from those who are living examples of its practice. So you can learn how to achieve your joy, fulfillment and balance.
Hope to see you there!
